EPOXY FUNCTIONALITY WITH IMPROVED FLEXIBILITY
Enhancing the physical properties of water-borne dispersion polymers, such as polyurethane and acrylic latexes, CoatOSil 2287 silane enables the formulation of coatings with good shelf stability, improved wet adhesion and enhanced resistance to water and organic solvents. This non-yellowing additive can be considered as an adhesion promoter or crosslinker.
CoatOSil 2287 silane can help deliver enhanced crosslinking and adhesion performance in water borne systems without the rapid loss of these properties, as has been observed with the post addition use of standard silanes.
CoatOSil 2287 silane reacts with neutralized carboxyl groups in anionic polymers to produce a silylated polymer. This storage stable silylated polymer can then crosslink upon coalescence, and provide the improvements expected in a crosslinked system.
Formulations incorporating CoatOSil 2287 silane have exhibited many improved performance characteristics including:
Applications that have benefited from CoatOSil 2287 silane include wood furniture and flooring finishes, as well as metal coatings. It is an excellent candidate to consider for formulations employing carboxylated latexes, such as acrylics, SBR, and polyurethane. In some instances, CoatOSil 2287 silane may also provide a means of replacing a two-part water-borne coating with a single-component system.
